West Texas Dental Associates will host a Business After Hours event on Sept. 15 at 5 p.m. The new dentist, Dr. Georgia Mitchell, will be present.

The Jimmy Dean Music and Arts Festival is set for Sept. 16 and 17.

The Hale Center Beautification Association will host a hamburger fundraiser on Sept. 17 to raise money to stock Caudle Lake. The event is set for 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Lemond Community Center, 110 E. Stevenson, in Hale Center. The cost is $10 per meal, which includes chips and a drink. Monetary donations toward the cause can also be made at Vista Bank.

The Plainview Education Foundation will host a gala on Sept. 17 from 6-10 p.m. at 109 Broadway. This is the first major event for the new organization in its inaugural year.

Covenant Hospital will host a Sugar Run on Sept. 17 in the Elk’s parking lot from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The Plainview Area United Way kickoff luncheon is set for Sept. 19 at noon at the Laney Center.

The next Dog Obedience Class taught by Regina Edwards is set to begin Sept. 19. The six-week-course will be hosted on the north side of 7th Street Park. On the first day, sign ups will begin at 6:30 p.m. and the class itself will begin at 7 p.m. Tuition is $75 for the course. Participants will meet every Monday at 7 p.m. for approximately one hour. Participating dogs must be at least 4 months old. Owners are asked to bring a collar, leash and bite size treats for their pups. The Plainview ISD Homecoming parade is scheduled for Sept. 22. The game is Sept. 23. The PHS Student Council is now taking applications for those interested in participating. Anyone who wants to take part can reach out to Kelly.shackelford@plainviewisd.org. Parade entries are open to the community. The last day to sign up to ride is Sept. 20. The parade will take off at 7:30 p.m. kicking off the night’s festivities, which are set to conclude with a city-wide pep rally.

Plainview LimeLite will host a ribbon cutting on Sept. 22 at 5 p.m. The event center is at 1403 W. 5th St. It’s owned by Kimerlee and Richard Mendoza.

The Bar None Ranch Rodeo is set for Sept. 24.

Local cyclist Cris Salinas is once again embarking on the Great Cycle Challenge in September. Throughout the month, he plans to ride his bike for pledges to raise money toward childhood cancer research. The campaign officially starts in September but he’s already raising funds. This year, Salinas plans to raise $1,000 and to ride at least 400 miles for the cause. The Hale County Literacy Council is currently hosting a school supply drive for Plainview ISD teachers. The staff is in need of items like staplers, staples, paper clips, markers, sticky notes, pencils, erasers, tape dispensers, glue sticks, scissors, folders, binder clips, tissues, etc. With community donations, the council hopes to provide as much as it can for educators so they don’t have to purchase the supplies on their own. The third annual Caprock Beef Cattle conference is set for Sept. 15. The event will be at the Floyd County Unity Center, 990 FM 786 in Lockney. The conference will cover resources to enhance livestock production practices. It’s open to the public. Registration will begin at 8 a.m. with the first presentation set to start at 9 a.m. The conference is anticipated to conclude around 3 p.m. Attendees will be eligible for two general continuing education units. The cost to attend is $40 and includes lunch. A new exhibit is now open at the Abraham Art Gallery on the Wayland Baptist University campus. “BIBLICAL IMAGINATION IN GERMAN EXPRESSIONIST PRINTS” is a collection of Sandra Bowden that will be on display through Oct. 15. The exhibition features pieces depicting scenes from the Bible. Those interested can drop by the art gallery, which is on the atrium level of the WBU Mabee Learning Resource Center & Library. The Plainview Rotary Club’s Running Water Draw Arts & Crafts Show will host its first Anime World Show, College eSports Tournament, and Dance Dance Revolution Videogame dance tournament (free to the public) in addition to its Super Smash Bros gaming tournament ($10 fee open to the public). There are a few booths remaining for this year’s show.  The show, which is Oct. 14-16, is open to the public and donations for entry are welcome!

The National Ranching Heritage Center is currently hosting a new exhibit called “1883: A Ranching Origin Story.” The exhibit includes authentic memorabilia from the set of the hit Paramount+ series “1883” featuring actors Shea Brennan, Tim McGraw, Faith Hill, Isabel May and others. There are behind-the-scene photos, clothes worn by the stars, an authentic wagon and other items on display. Those interested can view the exhibition and other National Ranching Heritage Center displays at the historical park at 3121 Fourth Street in Lubbock. The Lubbock Women’s Club Historical Foundation and Wellborn-Payne Endowment Community Speaker Series will host Jay Leno in October. The late night TV host will speak at The Buddy Holly Hall of Performing Arts and Sciences, 1300 Mac Davis Lane in Lubbock at 8 p.m. Oct. 18. The National Ranching Heritage Center will host Trolley Tours through October. The tours will start at 10 a.m. every Thursday through October.  Comedian Bert Kreischer will be coming to the The Buddy Holly Hall of Performing Arts and Sciences on Sept. 18 at 7 p.m. on a stop of his The Berty Boy Tour Relapse. Bert Kreischer is an American stand-up comedian, actor, writer and host. He has multiple stand up shows like “Hey Big Boy,” “Secret Time” and “The Machine” that are currently streaming on Netflix. Tickets for Kreischer’s show range from $39.75 to $99.75 plus taxes and fees. Comedian Bert Kreischer has added a second show to his Lubbock stop. “Bert Kreischer’s: The Berty Boy Tour Relapse” will be in Lubbock on Sept. 18. His 7 p.m. show was almost sold-out, as of Tuesday, so a 9:30 p.m. show was added.

Comedian Kevin James will perform at The Buddy Holly Hall of Performing Arts and Sciences on Sept. 24 at 7:30 p.m. Tickets to see James perform range between $39.99 to $129.99, plus taxes and fees. Broadway at the Buddy Holly Hall Series coordinators recently announced a change to the 2022-23 lineup. The season will include productions of Hamilton, Fiddler On The Roof, Dear Evan Hansen and Tootsie, as previously announced. But it will no longer include the production of Hairspray. The season will now include productions of Legally Blonde – The Musical, The Simon & Garfunkel Story and Cirque Dreams Holidaze. The Buddy Holly Hall will host Sesame Street Live! Make Your Magic. The show, which tells the story of Elmo embarking on a journey to perform magic, will make a stop in Lubbock on Dec. 15 and 16. Besides Elmo, the production will also feature Abby Cadabby, Big Bird, Cookie Monster and other beloved characters, according to a news release from The Buddy Holly Hall. The Plainview Dance Club now meets on the first, second and fourth Thursday of the month at the Elks Lodge, 908 N. I-27 off the service road. The groups meets from 6:30-9 p.m. There is live entertainment each night. No smoking is allowed and there are no snacks. American Cultural Exchange Services is looking for volunteer families to host a foreign exchange student for the 2022-2023 school year. Students will come from Japan, Korea, Asia, South American and Europe. American Cultural Exchange Services is a non-profit educational organization designated by the U.S. Department of State. The students will experience life in America and will get a feel for what it’s like being a part of an American family and an American High School. Students are not required to have their own room and will share in doing chores and helping around the house as needed. They are medically covered and will have their own spending money for personal needs. Married couples, single adults, widowed or divorced individuals can host a student. Plans are underway to create a Texas Tech Military & Veterans Tribute Walk at Memorial Circle on the Lubbock campus.
