East Chicago Street in between Douglas Avenue and Center Street in downtown Elgin will be closed from 6 to 10 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 4, so a promotional video for “Nightmare on Chicago Street” can be shot.

About 20 cast and crew members will be onsite. Production will halt by 9 a.m. so the street can be cleared of props and cars and reopen by 10 a.m. Elgin police will be assisting with the closure.

The zombie-themed Nightmare on Chicago Street is an annual outdoor Halloween party, which this year will be held from 6 to 11 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 28, in downtown Elgin.

The 15th annual “Just for the Health of It” community health and wellness expo will be held from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 8, at the Hanover Township William Tiknis Campus, 240 S. Route 59, Bartlett.

Free and open to the public, complimentary health screenings for blood pressure, hearing, cholesterol and glucose will be offered, a news release said. COVID-19 vaccines will also be available for those who are eligible.

There will also be raffles, chair massages, giveaways and a kid’s zone, featuring a petting zoo and bouncy castle, the release said. The event is hosted by Cook County Commissioner Kevin Morrison, D-Elk Grove Village, and Victory Centre of Bartlett.

Illinois State Police issued 18 tickets and 17 warnings in a roadside safety check conducted Aug. 26-27 on the north side of Route 31, south of Middle Road, in Elgin.

Another campaign to crack down on occupant restraint violations conducted in Kane County in August resulted in 17 seat belt citations, 13 for other violations and 39 warning tickets, a State Police news release said.

In the safety check, no arrests were made for DUI, and only one was alcohol- or drug-related, the release said. Other offenses were related to vehicle registration, insurance, seat belt usage and driver’s licenses.

School District U-46 is holding job fairs to fill paraeducator positions from 2 to 6 p.m. Friday, Sept. 9, and for all job openings from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, Sept. 10, at the U-46 Welcome Center, 1019 E. Chicago St., Elgin.

Onsite interviews will be conducted. Applicants should bring their resumes and any relevant certifications. Fully licensed applicants may be offered jobs on the spot.

Paradeducator jobs start at $16 per hour and include benefits. The district is also seeking qualified teachers, social workers, paraprofessionals, food service technicians, bus drivers and other employees.

The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services’ Health Resources and Services Administration recognized Greater Family Health with four national awards.

Greater Family Health, based in Elgin and operating 11 community health centers in five counties, was cited for clinical outcomes that ranked in the top 10% of the country’s 1,373 reporting federally qualified health centers, resulting in the receipt of the Health Center Quality Leader – Gold Award. It’s received the award for nine consecutive years.

Greater Family was also recognized for its health information technology, as a patient-centered medical home and as a federal tort claims act deemed medical center, a news release said.

The agency provides a comprehensive range of primary care services to nearly 59,000 area residents who receive 189,000 medical, behavioral health and dental appointments annually, the release said. Its Elgin location is at 373 Summit St.
